Zim actress shines in Nigeria

Nigeria-based, Zimbabwean actress, Memory Savanhu who was recently nominated for an award at the Zimbabwe International Women Awards to be held in October this year, has taken Nollywood by storm.

The Award ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Birmingham Town Hall in the United Kingdom. She has been involved in Nigerian movies for the past eight years. Several of the movies she has been part of have made a mark and won several awards in Nollywood.

It looks like Savanhu is one of the few Zimbabweans who have broken through the African film circles and conquered. In a statement, the Nigerian-based, Savanhu said she feels privileged to have had the opportunity to work in Africa’s biggest film industries.

“I would want to also share what I have been taught by African film legends, hence soon I am to shoot a Zimbabwean film,” she said. Some of the popular Nigerian movies she has been involved in include “Lagos Cougars”, “Reloaded”, “One Fine Day” among others.

She has also produced “Distance Between”, which stars renowned Nollywood personalities such as Rita Dominic and Mercy Johnson.

Savanhu said it has been a long journey for her but has been full of lessons and urged Zimbabwean actors and actresses never to stop learning from others.

The outstanding actor has also been featured in Nigeria’s widely read magazines, Vanguard and Golden Icons. Savanhu started he journey and love for the film industry during her school days.

She studied drama in London, where she grew up and she also attended the New York Film Academy in Abu Dhabi, where she also studied film-making from 2008 to 2009.
