Masomere quits How Mine

LUKE Masomere has resigned from his post as How Mine coach, ZTV reported on their main news bulletin last night.

Masomere has been under intense pressure as his side battled a barren spell and the 0-3 defeat at home, at the hands of FC Platinum on Wednesday, was the last straw.

How Mine invested into a lot of players at the beginning of the season, hoping to win their maiden league title, but they have lost their way in recent months, leading Masomere to question their recruitment drive.

He argued that the team targeted players who were past their peak and this has been shown by their failure to stand the heat, now that the marathon has reached the final stages.

The coach also claimed there was a lot that was happening at the club which he could not reveal at the moment.

Meanwhile, Harare City want to redeem themselves in the Chibuku Super Cup this weekend after falling to ZPC Kariba in their league match at Nyamhunga on Wednesday.

The Sunshine Boys have a date against a Triangle side that has been misfiring, of late, after a flying start in the Castle Lager Premiership campaign.

And coach Taurai Mangwiro wants his men to focus on the country’s premier knockout football tournament. “Losing to ZPC Kariba was the worst performance by my side this season and we even managed to fluff a lot of chances,” said Mangwiro.

“We are shifting focus to the Chibuku Super Cup. We will try to quickly forget about the past result and focus on our game against Triangle.”

Mangwiro’s side made it all the way to the final last year under the guidance of Masimba Dinyero, but lost to FC Platinum in controversial circumstances at Mandava.

“We are ready for Triangle and this is an important game for us, we need to progress to the next round,” said Mangwiro.

“We know we are playing a good side who beat us 3-1 in the league, but we need to come up with a good result. We have three hurdles to pass to book a ticket to (the) Africa (inter-club competitions) next year and so the game is a must-win game for us.

“We also need to play at the highest level, but that can only happen if we manage to win games like these. There is a lot of expectation and we need to fulfil that. We are going to unleash our strongest possible side for this game. We are almost out of the championship race and to go all the way in the Chibuku Super Cup will be something good.”

Mangwiro also feels his men will not have any problems playing at the spacious National Sports Stadium. “The last time we were there we managed to beat CAPS United 1-0,” said Mangwiro. They will welcome back midfielder James Jam and defender Crispen Dickson who missed the trip to Nyamhunga due to suspension. The Herald
