Zimbabwean woman up for rising star award in the UK

UNITED KINGDOM – Nyarai Kadungure, a 33-year-old Zimbabwean woman who works for Barclays Bank in the United Kingdom, has been nominated as one of 10 people that are vying for the Rising Star Awards in Banking for 2015.

Sponsored by financial services group, Societe Generale, the Rising Star Awards seek to shine a spotlight on female talent in the fields of Banking, Consulting, Law, Insurance, Investment Management, Media and Journalism, Technology, Personal and Executive Assistants, Human Resources and Recruitment.

Nyarai has worked her way through the ranks at Barclays, first joining at entry level (Analyst 1) as an undergraduate before a seven-year development plan saw her complete courses in Credit Skills Development, Professional Certificate in Banking, Professional Diploma in Banking Practice Management.

Nyarai is currently working towards a BSc (Hons) qualification in Banking Practice and Management and is now on a year’s secondment for an Assistant Vice President position. She is also Co-Chair of the Barclays Junior Advisory Committee, a sub-committee of the Women’s Initiative Network.

“She facilitates programs which empower juniors to not only meet critical business objectives but to also establish mentoring relationships for their own personal development. Nyarai helps to deliver great initiatives which create dialogue between senior leaders and junior members within the business and has looked to develop the initiative in the US and Asia,” her profile reads.

Speaking to Nehanda Radio, Nyarai said, “First of all I would like to say thank you, I am very humbled by your support. When I set this goal it was personal and thought it was just for me to recognise but to have other people validate my achievement, my gratitude goes beyond words. Thank you.”

Next month an expert panel of judges will judge the winners of this category. The nominees have also been invited to celebrate their shortlisting at Bloomberg on the 13th of August 2015. The original nomination and public vote count will be taken in to consideration when appointing the category winners.
