Vengesayi Magwinya was dragged to the Harare Civil Court being sued for physical and verbal abuse by his wife, Angeline Moyo, who is also visually impaired.

Angeline was supposed to bring witnesses to testify that she indeed suffered abuse at her husband’s hands.

“The witnesses failed to come because he threatened to have his nephew help him beat them up,” she said.

Angeline said she was seeking a protection order against him because she feared he would kill her.

“He is in the habit of beating me whenever he is angry. My father tried to sit him down and talk to him and he changed for a while but he is back to his old ways.

“He recently broke my door and stole my property, selling some of it without my knowledge,” she said.

Vengesayi did not deny the allegations levelled against him;

“My wife thinks that because I am blind, I am unaware of what she does in my absence.

“She entertains other men and I get to hear about it from my relatives so I beat her up so she starts behaving,” he said.

Magistrate Audrey Tarugarira granted the protection order in Angeline’s favour.
