HARARE – Zanu PF senators have gone a gear up in bootlicking President Robert Mugabe whom they claim to have been anointed by God to save Africa.
Congratulating Mugabe on his appointment as African Union (AU) chairperson on Wednesday in Parliament, senators took the bootlicking frenzy to new heights by bestowing their nonagenarian leader a deity status.
Mashonaland East senator Address Matiirira claimed that Mugabe was anointed by God.
“This can only be God because president Mugabe is the anointed one, he was sent by God whether you like it or not but that is the truth,” said Matiirira. n
“Leaders are seen by their deeds and actions. It is not a question of just leading but your works and your deeds are the ones that show you are a good leader as our president cde Mugabe,” added the senator.
Not to be outdone in the apple-polishing contest was Rosemary Goto another Zanu PF senator from Mashonaland East.
“There are other great presidents but the only person who was seen fit to chair the AU was our president. This is because leadership comes from the Lord. Let me ask you to go and read Daniel 2:37 which talks of where leadership comes from. All the leaders, including chiefs, are God-given,” Goto gushed.
Elevating Mugabe to high heavens, Mashonaland Central senator Monica Mavhunga, claimed Mugabe is no longer a human being but an idea which the whole of Africa is following.
“President Mugabe is no longer a human being but now an idea because Africans now follow him. The whole of Africa has said, ‘President Mugabe, you can come and lead us as Africa because we have seen what you have done. We have seen your works,’” Mavhunga said.
However, Rorina Muchihwa, an MDC senator, raised the flag on her excited colleagues telling them that the hugely ceremonial AU chairpersonship is not for Mugabe but for Zimbabwe as a whole.
“The leadership that we are talking about was not given to the president but to the country of Zimbabwe. The leadership of the African Union (AU) is on a rotational basis and it was once with Malawi and now, it is our turn as Zimbabwe,” said Muchihwa.
“As I am speaking right now, I am not looking down upon the president, please understand me. He is the one on the throne but if it was anyone else who was there, he would have been given the chairmanship because it is for the country.”
