SOUTH AFRICA – The driver of a VW Polo vehicle involved in a tragic accident that killed South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere, will be charged with reckless driving and culpable homicide.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed that Mhere was travelling on William Nicol Road near the N1 when he collided with a VW Polo and a Mazda. The star died in the early hours of this morning.
Police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane said “The Polo offramped from the N1 and crossed over the middle island then collided with Simba’s Mitsubishi, which he was driving, and another passenger died as well.”
According to a report on the Eye Witness News website “the late presenter was on his way to OR Tambo International Airport to board a flight to the J&B Met taking place in Cape Town today. A friend who was travelling with him was also killed while Mhere’s father who was also in the vehicle survived.”
Mhere’s manager Lorraine Maisel says the 26-year-old Zimbabwean was a kind soul, loved unconditionally by those closest to him.
“He was a motivated go-getter, highly intelligent, humble human being who was ready for success. He was a great big, huge teddy bear and never had a bad word to say about anybody and he is going to be sorely missed.”
