Hundreds of Zanu PF youths waiting for the arrival of President Robert Mugabe from his long holiday in the East, were on Thursday demonstrating against former party secretary for Administration Didymus Mutasa at the Harare International Airport.

Mugabe was due to arrive in the afternoon and with a stage set for him to address the gathering.

Led by the party’s Harare Provincial Commissar Shadreck Mashayamombe, the demonstrations are marked by anti Mutasa slogans with posters emblazoned with phrases like “Mutasa is Judas Iscariot”

Mutasa fell out of favour with Mugabe after allegations that he and former Vice President Joice Mujuru and many other Zanu PF officials were plotting to oust Mugabe at the party’s congress held in December last year.

This led to several suspensions and expulsions which saw heavyweights like former spokesperson Rugare Gumbo and former Labour minister Nicholas Goche being sildelined.

Last week Mutasa wrote a scathing statement denouncing the congress as null and void. NewsDay

In the quiet release of declassified British government files, history has once again intruded into the present. Can it get any weirder? I honestly did not know whether to laugh or cry when I read today’s Nehanda Radio op-ed accusing Nelson Mandela of “selling out” South Africa’s black majority.
