HARARE – Contemporary afro-jazz musician Jah Prayzah who has been nominated in the All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) to be held in Lagos, Nigeria next month is afraid to travel to the finals amid concerns of Ebola in West Africa.
Jah Prayzah says he is still contemplating going to Nigeria to attend the event fearing the disease outbreak that has reportedly killed over 3 000 people in West Africa.
“I really wanted to attend the event but I fear the Ebola virus. I am still deliberating on the issue.
“As of now, we are waiting to hear more from them and I hope they are going to put measures to protect us if we manage to travel,” he said.
The Tsviriyo singer was nominated under the Best Male Artiste in southern Africa Category.
“I am so delighted to have been nominated for the All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) to be held in Lagos Nigeria in November under the Best Male Artiste in southern Africa Category.
“Ndotenda imi vatsigiri vangu (I thank all my fans) for taking me this far. I hope and pray we will go on to win the award and bring it home.
“I am also looking forward to the Zima awards in which we were nominated four times under three categories. Moramba makatitsigira kuti tisvike kure semasoja zvatakareva (keep on supporting us),” he said.
Last year, the 27-year-old musician scooped four accolades on the 13th edition of National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) in Outstanding Male Musician, Outstanding Album
(Tsviriyo), Outstanding Song (Tsviriyo) and a People’s Choice Award.
His video Mwanasikana which was done by Willard Magombedze aka Slimaz also scooped an award in the Outstanding Video Category last year at the Nama awards.
Nicknamed ‘Longman’ by his legion of fans owing to his height, Jah Pryzah has five albums under his belt and these include Rudo Nerunyararo (2007) Sungano Yerudo, Ngwarira Kuparara (2011), Tsviriyo and Kumbumura Mhute. Daily News
