‘We repeatedly had sex in the bush’

A 30-year-old Ruwa man standing trial for allegedly raping his brother’s wife, left the court gallery in stitches on Wednesday, after claiming that the story was a hoax since the two had consensual sex in the bush, on numerous occasions.

Masvaure also quizzed the complainant on why she never raised alarm on the day of the alleged incident.

The accused, George Masvaure of Dunstan farm in Ruwa, made the claim while cross-examining Lita Jumbi (22), who is the complainant in the matter.

Regional magistrate Noel Mupeiwa presided over the matter.

“It is not true that l raped her, the complainant would come out of her house around 2000hrs, only wrapped in a cloth, while wearing nothing underneath,” said Masvaure.

“We would then proceed to a near-by bush where she would remove the cloth so we can have sex,” he said.

Masvaure also quizzed the complainant on why she never raised alarm on the day of the alleged incident.

“I did not think of anything at that particular moment (the day of the alleged rape), as l was not expecting it. I am currently six months pregnant as a result of the rape,” replied Jumbi.

The state, represented by prosecutor Tinashe Kanyemba, alleged that on an unknown date, sometime in December last year, the pair started having an intimate affair.

As the illicit relationship gathered momentum, the accused person alleged that the complainant ‘fixed’ him with traditional medicine so he could become impotent when with his wife.

After that, Jumbi subsequently told Masvaure that their affair was over.

The court further heard that, sometime in February this year, the accused then raped the complainant who was alone in her house.

The matter was later reported to police, leading to his arrest. The Zimbabwe Mail
