Dancehall chanter Soul Jah Love and wife Bounty Lisa are never short of controversy after they turned up late at the gig and left the stage before scheduled time.

Soul Jah Love was expected to start his show at 8.30pm but he only arrived at the Book Cafe at 9.45pm and ended his show prematurely without Bounty Lisa having performed.

“Bounty Lisa had a headache just before the show started so we wanted to rush her to the hospital,” his manager only identified as Khaya said.

Khaya gave flimsy excuses about the glitches although Bounty Lisa was seen milling around backstage.

“He finished early because we wanted to give the group Conquering Family (Soul Jah Love’s backing group) a chance to perform. We were not told of the exact time we were supposed to be on stage by our promoter,” he said.

Fans who braved the chilly weather to attend Soul Jah Love and Bounty Lisa’s joint show were left disappointed and clamoured for more after the brief stage work from the Mbare-bred chanter.

Soul Jah Love, who is also lovingly called “Chibaba Chacho” or “Conquering Shumba” churned out his popular hits including “This Time”, “Handichabatika”, “Gum Kum” and “Ndini Uya Uya”.

He, however, was commended for putting a splendid performance that thrilled revellers as they danced and sang along to his tunes. One of the fans who attended the show applauded Soul Jah Love for his great showmanship although he was disappointed with his conduct.

“Soul Jah Love’s performance was awesome and I enjoyed it but I’m not pleased with his short performance and the delay in coming. He must change the way he conducts his business,” said Tafadzwa Rugare.
