Tsvangirai mock wedding becomes reality

LONDON – In September 2012, Zimbabwe Vigil activists Philip Maponga and Lindiwe Bare took part in a mock wedding of the then Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai marrying Elizabeth Macheka.

Zimbabwe Vigil mock Tsvangirai wedding featuring Philip Maponga and Lindiwe Bare in September 2012: “Mugabe gives the Zanu PF brides to Tsvangirai” was the theme.

No one could have predicted that the two activists would strike up a real relationship and get married for real nearly two years later. Last Sunday Philip and Lindiwe got married in London and members of the Vigil attended.

ZimVigil coordinator Rose Benton who also attended the wedding explained how the two lovebirds met.

“They met at the Vigil on the day Tsvangirai married Elizabeth Macheka. Lindiwe came dressed as the bride – Elizabeth and we randomly pulled Philip from the group to play Tsvangirai and married them there.”

“Little did we know we were ahead of ourselves. About a dozen Vigil people were at the real wedding and demonstrated how we dance, drum and sing,” she said.

The Zimbabwe Vigil mock wedding 2 years ago played on the drama that surrounded Tsvangirai’s marriage to Macheka given the attempts by ditched lover Lorcadia Karimatsenga to stop the marriage.

Philip and Lindiwe had no such drama last Sunday.
