Tsvangirai Epworth rally in pictures

As the battle for the hearts and minds of MDC supporters continue countrywide, founding president Morgan Tsvangirai held his rally in Epworth on Sunday.

During the rally Tsvangirai described the rebels expelled from his party as “a bunch of disgruntled activists who stood for nothing but malice. It’s a coalition of people motivated by malice, jealousy and hatred and will never succeed.”

“We want to focus on fighting Mugabe, the crisis in the country is political not economic and if we address that, there will be an economic boom in this country. That can only be achieved if we win a war against Mugabe.”

Meanwhile suspected Zanu PF supporters stormed the rally and indiscriminately threw missiles at the MDC-T supporters, leaving 14 of them seriously injured.

The incident happened soon after Tsvangirai had finished his speech and left the venue.

The skirmishes, which lasted about five minutes, stopped after riot police intervened and threw teargas canisters to disperse the crowd as MDC-T activists fought back to defend their territory.

Tsvangirai’s rally came a day after expelled Secretary general Tendai Biti held his own rally in Manicaland that was attended by around 50 people.

MDC Renewal spokesman Jacob Mafume meanwhile told Nehanda Radio theirs was not a rally but a meeting of structures.

Meanwhile, there was drama at the MDC-T Mashonaland West provincial offices after a group of supporters loyal to Tsvangirai on Sunday said they had repelled attempts by the Biti faction to take over the party’s offices.
