Speaking to Nehanda Radio on Friday, Makoni said the event marks the second anniversary of her “Never Again” book which was launched in April last year.

The book traces how at age six “Betty Makoni’s life tragically fell apart. She fell victim to rape while a child vendor. At age nine, her mother died in domestic violence, forcing her to be a mother instead of a daughter.”

The book documents her trials and tribulations including her work in Zimbabwe helping vulnerable girls and women who suffered rape and domestic violence.

“I am burying the past pain and mobilizing other women survivors for a grassroots campaign to stop violence against women and girls. We are also officially launching our 5 year report to show the global impact of our work.”

Makoni said the event will also be honour Malawi president Joyce Banda for her work in stopping violence against women.

The event will be restricted to 200 guests. The dress code is strictly purple and tickets cost £40 inclusive of your dinner and donation to the campaign.
