Former Ncube MDC spokesman joins MDC-T

Bulawayo – Hardly a week after dumping the MDC led by Welshman Ncube, former Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Mr Edwin Ndlovu, has announced he is joining the MDC led by founding president Morgan Tsvangirai.

Although Ndlovu claimed he quit the Ncube MDC to concentrate on his studies, Nehanda Radio exclusively revealed last week that he would be joining the larger faction of the same party after the split of 2005.

On Thursday Ndlovu said a united MDC as formed in 1999 is the only solution to topple Mugabe.

Last week Ndlovu said; “I have decided to resign from the MDC with immediate effect due to personal reasons which have got nothing to do with any individual or political party.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the leadership of MDC, from the president Professor Ncube, to the spokesperson that I have been working with Nhlanhla Dube, (Kurauone) Chihwayi, Samukeliso Ndlovu, up to the provincial chairperson Oscar Ncube and all the members and supporters of MDC.

“They have groomed me up to this stage where I am today but I have decided to resign and concentrate on other things like studying. I want to continue with my studies and take a break from all political activities. Besides studying I have decided to have time with my family and I am also into farming,” said Ndlovu.

“I made it clear that I’m resigning from politics, I want to concentrate on my studies and farming as well. I will bounce back to politics sometime but not now. So after taking this leave definitely I will rethink about what political stance to will take. Currently, I am not resigning to join another political party,” he added.

But it would seem he only wanted to spare his colleagues another embarrassment and defect in instalments.

Only a few weeks before, the Ncube MDC lost former MP’s Mr Edward Mkhosi and Mr Siyabonga Malandu Ncube, after they defected to the Tsvangirai MDC. Both officials were paraded at an MDC-T rally at Stanley Square in the city.

A decision by the Ncube MDC to impose Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga as a member of the National Assembly in Umzingwane District under the women’s quota has not gone down well with the rank and file members of the party and a steady stream of defections is taking place.
