Mahachi finally cleared to play for Highlanders

BULAWAYO – Highlanders will finally be able to officially field their new on-loan star player Kudakwashe Mahachi in the Castle Lager Premiership, which kicks off this weekend, after his club Chicken Inn gave them a clearance letter.

Although Bantu Rovers sold Mahachi to Mamelodi Sundowns, Chicken Inn had remained adamant that they would only release the player who was on loan to them, if they received a portion of the player’s transfer fees. They argued they are legally entitled to a development fee since he is still under 23 years.

Tavengwa Hara, the Chicken Inn secretary said “We sent a clearance letter to Bantu Rovers on March 20. PSL were not specific, so we later learnt that we had to send one to Highlanders as well which we have since done,” he said.

Mahachi secured his move to Sundowns in February on a five-year deal but can only join the club in June after the South African premiership side had exhausted their quota of foreign players for this season.

In the meantime Sundowns loaned him to Highlanders.
