Chimbetu abandons band to be employed by son

HARARE – It never rains but pours for musician Allan Chimbetu following reports that he has abandoned his Orchestra Dendera Kings Central Committee band to be employed by his own son Douglas Chimbetu, as a backing vocalist.

The musician has been facing financial problems made worse by his waning musical fortunes and child maintenance claims. Only last year Allan again abandoned his group to back his nephew Suluman Chimbetu.

But Allan meanwhile insists people are blowing things out of proportion and he was only assisting his son “for a while and shows have been lined up for the two of us….I don’t see any problem in working with my son.”

According to reports Allan has had a falling out with his band manageress Abigail Kuleya. But Kuleya refused to comment saying “We are resting at the moment. Ask Allan about that issue. He knows better,” she said.

It’s claimed some of Allan’s band members have moved to Tryson Chimbetu’s group.

Last year in November it was reported that a string of poor attendances recorded at his shows, resulted in Allan resorting to fixing cell-phones to earn a living. His band members were also complaining that he was not paying them enough and they threatened to leave.

In December 2012 Allan was hauled off stage and locked up in Mutare over Christmas after he failed to pay $60 maintenance for yet another one of his children.

Allan has a three-year-old child with a Mutare woman Tsitsi Rambanepasi and cops had been looking for him as he had two warrants of arrests which were outstanding.
