Benjani impressed by Warriors win

Former Manchester City striker and Zimbabwe Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari says he was pleasantly surprised by the impressive performance of the national team who dismantled Gabon 2-0 in an international friendly in South Africa on Tuesday.

Speaking after the match Benjani said “I am very impressed with what I saw today, it really was a pleasant surprise for many of us who were not expecting the team to put up such a convincing show.

“If you look at it, you will realise that the Gabonese had some experienced guys like Daniel Cousin — formerly with English Premiership side Hull City — but with this youthful side of ours we managed to outplay them.

“If they (the Warriors) can manage to replicate this kind of performance when the tournament (The African Nations Championship – CHAN) starts, I cannot see anyone stopping us.

“The challenge is just to keep the faith and belief that I see in them,” said Mwaruwari, who is now based in South Africa and is turning out for that country’s Premiership side Bidvest Wits.
