HARARE – Clad in a dark grey designer suit and a matching blue tie, Dynamos winger Russell Madamombe could easily pass for a top company executive.

Very contradictory from the usual hustler who is more popular for those mesmerising runs on the wings that have left many a defender in a maze.

Yesterday, the former Monomotapa talismanic player looked immaculate as he tied the knot with goalkeeper and former Mighty Warriors captain Onai Chingawo at a unique wedding of football personalities held at Pagomo in Harare.

Love was all over the air as the couple kissed, shared the cake and danced in front of their relatives some of whom had come from as far as Manicaland and Masvingo provinces.

Madamombe (23) hails from Rusape while Onai (28), who looked stunning in the white gown despite a bulging pregnancy, comes from the heart of Gutu.

“From this day, Onai you shall be obedient to Russell and I also compel you Russell to love your wife till death do you apart,” chanted the pastor as the footballers were united.

A rather shy Madamombe and the ever-smiling Chingawo could not have the chance to speak to The Sunday Mail crew due to the pressing programme of events, but friends said they met at Monomotapa where Onai went through her paces under Mighty Warriors goalkeeper-trainer Nkululeko Dhlamini, who doubled at Monoz.

Joy was written all over the lovebirds’ shining faces as they disappeared for a photo session.

“Uh, my brother, we cannot talk much today as you can see the programme is tight, but I can say I am the happiest man on earth,” was all Russell could say.

Mufakose Queens coach and Chingawo’s childhood mentor Langton Giwa was ecstatic as he could not believe that “his little girl” had finally walked down the aisle.

“I worked with Onai since she was a little girl back in Mufakose and I am glad she has set a good example to other women soccer players,” said Giwa.

Also present at the wedding was Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha, Madamombe’s teammate Thomas Magorimbo and FC Platinum left back Qadr Amini, who also tied the knot last Thursday, while a number of women soccer players could be seen all over the venue. Sunday Mail
