Evison Mandiamba died on the spot after Willard Muparutsa stabbed him on the chest.

When The Manica Post visited the scene on Monday morning, villagers were at a loss of words to explain the gruesome murder which had happened the previous day at around 7pm.

The body of Mandiamba, which was lying in a pool of blood, was ferried late by the police. A seemingly unremorseful Muparutsa was immediately arrested. He helped police with indications at the scene.

A friend of Mandiamba, Everjoy Nyambuya, who witnessed the gory incident, said they tried to cool down a dispute between Muparutsa and his wife but the accused turned his anger on them.

“We heard them arguing on top their voices and we went to check what was happening. Muparutsa fumed telling us not to interfere in his domestic affairs. We sensed danger when we saw him holding his 18-year-old son by the neck in the ensuing fracas.

He suddenly turned his anger on Evison, saying he wanted to stab him for poking his nose into his affairs.

“Evison retreated but Muparutsa followed him, holding an Okapi knife in his hand. I warned Mandiamba and other villagers that Muparutsa was in possession of a knife but it was rather late.

“At that time Muparutsa had approached Mandiamba. He spat on his face thrice and stabbed him on the chest. People fled for dear life and Muparutsa went back into his house. He later boasted, showcasing the knife he had stabbed Evison with.”

The accused’s wife said her husband was of a violent nature and was very abusive.

“He was accusing me of infidelity and had beaten me up over the allegations. He is violent and abusive and it’s his habit,” she said.

Police recovered the blood-stained knife used in committing the crime. Manica Post
