Nurse loses cellphone to bogus patient

CONCESSION – What had looked like a good working weekend turned out to be a nightmare for a Concession Hospital nurse after she lost her cellphone to a bogus patient.

Armed with a police report and escorted from Glendale police station by a police officer while looking to be in great pain the bogus patient asked if he could borrow a cellphone from the nurse who was attending to him only to disappear in a moment of unpaid attention.

The man identified himself as Handsome Tavamba (33) whose next of kin was listed as Memory Moyo. The patient gave his address as 4 Brigade, Box 84, Masvingo.

The police report indicated that the man was attacked by robbers in Glendale and was in deep pain at a place he had an operation a few years back and therefore needed urgent medical attention hence the police escort.

Reports obtained by this reporter indicate an ongoing bogus scheme by these thieves where they go around hospitals armed with police reports claiming that they have been attacked on delicate places.

After getting police reports they go to hospitals faking pain and borrow a cellphone from an unsuspecting hospital staff only to disappear with other cellphones.

An unidentified nurse who spoke to this reporter claimed her friend lost a cellphone and valuables in such a similar way at Masvingo General hospital in 2011. Efforts to get a comment from the Police by the time of going to print were fruitless.
