My guitar is free from juju: Macheso

By Blessing Masakadza

Veteran sungura musician Alick Macheso has revealed that his guitar is juju clean. He dispelled suggestions that his guitar strumming skills are juju related and that his guitar needed his authority for one to plat it.

Baba Sharo, as the singer is known, was responding to requests by Peter Moyo at Mega 1 (Pamahuswa) entertainment joint where he staged a family show on Sunday. Peter requested to play the bass guitar and sought the authority of the sungura giant.

“Ndokumbirawo kumboridza bass renyu mdhara, ndakanzwa kuti haringobatwe zvinotoda matendera,” chanted Peter.

Macheso conceded that such rumours have circulated before dismissing the allegation describing it as hear-say.

He then responded saying “Idzodzi nyaya idzi, hapana chiripo munhu anongoridza ndodzinganzi dzinoda kuturikirwa here?” he said before handing over the guitar to the Young Igwe.

He went on to say,”Hatinga musvore vapfana vechidiki vanofamba vachinzwa kuti ukangoribata zvigunwe zvinokombama. Hakuna zvakadaro,” he chanted.

Peter made a guest appearance at the warm up for his show at City Sports Bar later that night. He said he wanted to be a multi-instrumentalist as he is the head of Utakataka, learning from Macheso who plays various instruments.

He played the famous bass guitar on the song Tererai much to the applause of many. Macheso went on to lecture the youthful Utakataka boss and urged him to be versatile on all the instruments.
