PICTURES: Mugabe hijacks Johane Marange Apostolic Church pilgrimage

Tens of thousands of Johane Marange Apostolic Church members gathered at their Holy Shrine in Marange as part of their annual pilgrimage which is held every July. President Robert Mugabe hijacked the gathering to campaign for himself and his Zanu PF party.

Mugabe reminded the gathering that Zanu PF brought the country independence and said he was inspired by the Holy Spirit to come to the pilgrimage. The first to address the gathering was Manicaland resident Minister Chris Mushohwe who said Mugabe and wife had donated church garments and groceries.

Mugabe said he appreciated the role being played by apostles in teaching good morals and values. Senior members of St Noah Johane Marange who came from within and outside Zimbabwe also addressed the gathering  in preparation for Mugabe’s keynote address.

Mugabe and wife came all dressed in apostles garments, no shoes as per church custom. Grace Mugabe was sitting on the floor among the apostles, only the President was sitting on a chair. Senior Zanu PF officials accompanying Mugabe were Webster Shamu and resident Minister Chris Mushowe.

Nearly 100 000 Johane Marange Apostles gathered at their annual passover at St Noah Church in Mafararikwa, Bocha in Manicaland.
