Picture: The sorry state of a school in Mt Darwin

According to international diamond watchdog, Partnership Africa Canada, about US$2 billion worth of diamonds were stolen by Zanu PF cronies and international dealers from Zimbabwe’s eastern diamond fields last year alone.

Now spare a thought for these Form 1 students at Choma Secondary School in Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central province. Many of them have to make use of the floor because there are no chairs or desks to use.

Those lucky enough to have desks have to contend with using bits and pieces of wood which is what remains of the desks. These pictures were captured by a Nehanda Radio citizen reporter who was horrified at the state of the school.

“What do you expect from these kids if they are learning under such conditions? The whole school is like that,” he wrote.
