Mbare has been an opposition stronghold for over 13 years and Knight is almost assured of winning the seat. According to preliminary figures given to Nehanda Radio, Knight had 1190 votes to Zvorwadza’s 490.

Another legendary radio presenter James Maridadi, a former spokesman for Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, will be the MDC-T candidate for the Mabvuku parliamentary seat after beating Timothy Mubawu. Maridadi secured 828 votes to Mubawu’s 300 votes.

One of the most anticipated primary election battles involving another radio legend in Ezra Tshisa Sibanda and Mark Moyo in Vungu (Midlands Province) is still to take place on Wednesday.

Writing on social networking site Facebook,  Ezra said “congratulations to Eric Knight for winning Mbare MDC-T primaries, well done. Vungu Constituency will be holding their primaries on Wednesday!”
