HARARE – A rape prophecy turned real after an eight-year-old girl was sexually molested by her uncle, true to what her mother had been told during a church service, a magistrate has heard.
The incident allegedly took place last year, when the girl returned from school and went to change her uniform in her bedroom. The girl’s 20-year-old uncle barged into the Grade 2’s bedroom and locked the door, the court heard.
He allegedly lifted the girl, threw her on the bed and removed her clothes. The minor is alleged to have cried for help but her uncle went on to rape her. Prosecutor Junior Mugebe said the girl’s brother knocked on the door after hearing his sister’s cries.
While the girl was in the room, she called out to her brother to summon their elder uncle. The elder uncle forcibly opened the locked door and the girl immediately revealed the rape to her mother, who claimed she had already received the prophecy from church.
Magistrate Don Ndirowei remanded the man to May 30 for his trial. Sibanda was remanded in custody to May 27. Daily News
