Wife accuses hubby of molesting niece

A HARARE woman last week told the Civil Court that she is filing for a divorce from her husband because he sexually molested her sister’s daughter. Norah Osteen said that she is ending her marriage of 20 years with Tapiwa Kativhu.

Norah opened up at the Harare civil court where she was seeking a protection order against Tapiwa.

“I am actually in the process of divorcing this man because he is a child molester; my sister’s daughter was at our house so one Sunday I went to church and when I came back I found her crying saying that he had molested her.

“Ever since that day we started having endless problems in our marriage that is why I want us to go our separate ways,” said Norah.

Norah went on to tell the court that she was living in fear of being murdered by Tapiwa because he had been giving her death threats.

“I have been married to this man for the past twenty years and since I was six months pregnant he has been physically abusing me. So I am now afraid that he might kill me because he has been telling me that he was going to kill me.

“He is also not financially assisting me and the children and our first born son who is 19 is not even going to school,” she said.

Responding to the claims, Tapiwa told the court that Norah’s accusations were only meant to tarnish his image.

“I don’t know what she is talking about. I didn’t molest her niece; they are just trying to ruin my reputation and I have been looking after my family and giving her money whenever I have it.

“The last time I assaulted her is five years ago and our child is not going to school because she refusing that we take the child to a boarding school,” he said.

Magistrate Vongai Muchuchutu granted the protection order which bars Tapiwa from physically and emotionally abusing Norah.
