Police spokesperson Superintendent Paul Nyathi disclosed that the two-man gang pounced on the owner of a Total Service Station that is along Samora Machel Avenue in the capital at around 5am last Wednesday and made off with a large amount of cash.

“We are investigating an incident where criminals approached the owner of Total Service Station in his office in the early hours of March 25. The pair then pointed a pistol at the businessman, demanding cash,” he said.

The pair allegedly forced the owner to open his safe and took away US$47 110 and disappeared. Supt Nyathi urged businesspeople to regularly deposit their proceeds with banks to avoid unnecessary loss of money to robbers.

“We are appealing to business people to regularly bank their money and not to keep large sums of money at their offices especially during holidays,” he said.
