Dancer ‘Franco Slomo’ marriage collapses
HARARE – Nimble-footed Dendera dancer Francis ‘Franco Slomo’ Dhaka has divorced his wife, Mary Gwanzura. Franco Slomo has often been at loggerheads with his wife over her going to family gospel gigs without his knowledge and approval.
She allegedly misbehaved when he was away on tours. Mary was however, not reachable to give her side of the story. When asked to comment, Franco Slomo was a bunch of nerves and talked about his career instead.
“This is my private life boys. Ask about the next dance I’m going to introduce. I started all the sungura or museve dances being imitated by dancers in or outside Zimbabwe.
“Write about that not to move around knocking on the people’s private bedrooms at nights. How did you see that we are not sleeping together with Mai Slomo junior? Yes Mary moved out of my house after we tried in vain to inject common sense in her head.
“Her aunt even asked my wife why I was the only one going to her house trying to start talks to end our disputes. I went there several times but Mary never did. Handishushe ini boys, ask my village mates or neighbours.
“Even Matoki (his friend and fellow dancer at Orchestra Dendera Kings) tried to hold peace talks with us until he said that forcing my wife to stay was like setting a bomb in my life.
“Mary akatiza imba ega masikati machena akatuta twake akandisiya ndakangoti dzii hana seshungu kuti yapararaka imba yangu ndichikuida iyi. That is why everybody is now sympathising with me daily. After all she is still the mother of my son.
“I can not divulge the depth of our misunderstanding but just know that I have got muyera moyo akuuya from an apostolic church and she is doing her upper six and she looks exactly like my late Zambian wife who I had before Mary,” said Franco.
When Matoki was asked to shed light on the issue, he just shook off his head and said: “I tried my level best but in vain, these two know each other. After all love is for two and if you are invited to intermediate then the notes must be sealed and archived in their home,” he said. H Metro
