Records at the Harare magistrates court revealed that Dumba – who reportedly had five known wives – had be issued with a warrant of arrest after he failed to attend court at Rotten Row on three occasions.

Dumba was accused of stealing money from an organisation for female police officers. The money was being kept in a drawer by a superior he shared an office with. He hatched a plan to stay behind in the office after working hours and then broke into his superior’s drawer to steal the money she had left behind.

This led to a search at his house in Epworth, which led to the discovery of police badges meant for senior officials like superintendents and chief superintendents suggesting he was committing crimes using the badges.

He was kicked out of the police force but went away with his service gun and i.d which he was now understood to be using during crimes.

Sources believe he even used the ID to fool the late Detective Assistant Inspector Thadeous Chapinga who he shot in cold blood last week on Wednesday and was laid to rest in Bikita at the weekend.

Dumba exchanged fire with detectives on Friday afternoon after a raid at a homestead in Mt Darwin and he escaped through the window while wearing just underwear. With reinforcements from the support unit and dog section now in the area, detectives took on Dumba on Saturday and he was shot dead as he still wanted to fight.

National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the shooting. “We confirm the shooting to death of Takesure Dumba after he was found hiding alond the river banks in Mt Darwin”, said Ass-Comm Charamba.

“He exchanged gun shots with police before he ran away to hide along the river banks where he met his fate. We are warning all such and would be criminals that the police are full force and will not hesitate to shoot to kill until all criminals are brought to book.

“In the Holy Bible, it is written that those who live by the sword will die by the sword and Dumba was an ex-police officer who was sacked from the force sometime last year for being a wolf among the sheep. Police will continue to weed out all such officers from the force in line with our oath of promoting patriotism, empowerment, professionalism and total commitment to the nation.”

Meanwhile, addressing mourners at Chapinga’s funeral service held at Morris Depot on Friday, Officer Commanding Criminals Investigating Department Senior Assistant Commissioner Simon Nyathi reiterated that police will shoot to kill all armed robbers, car-jackers and murderers.

Police Chaplin-General, Chief Superintendant Doyce Jeremiah, said the late Chapinga passed on while discharging his duties similar to a minister of God. “Detective Assistant Inspector Chapinga died on duty fighting a good fight of saving lives and protecting the nation from evil.

“Like the biblical David who fought with a hyena and lion protecting sheep, Detective Chapinga was doing his ministry to God which we salute here today as we bid farewell to him.

“He has shown courage, fought a good fight and it is left to us to learn that he has passed the baton to continue serving the nation as we will receive our reward from God at the end.

“We call this one a good death but to the criminals, Biblical Abel’s blood is crying out to God demanding an answer from Cain why he had killed him.” Chief Superintend Jeremiah urged members of the force to emulate the late police detectives who died on duty.
