By Lance Guma

An organisation calling itself Zupa has written to the Bulawayo City Council putting forward a proposal that Luveve Stadium should be named after the late legendary striker Adam Ndlovu who died in a tragic car crash this month.

Last week Zupa (which means a self-governing unit in Slavic language) made a request under its Reclaiming Zimbabwe Agenda (REZA) “for Adam Ndlovu to be declared a national hero through the Bulawayo Governor’s office”.

A statement issued by Thamsanqa Zhou (Patron) and Innocent Ndibali (President) said they disagreed with a decision by Zanu PF to deny Ndlovu hero status because such an honour was reserved for liberation war fighters.

Adam Ndlovu coached Chicken Inn FC to third place in the just ended Premier League football season. The team used Luveve Stadium as their home ground and Zupa say it would be appropriate to rename it the Adam Ndlovu Stadium.

Zupa who said they disagreed with the Zanu PF view that puts a ‘sunset meaning to national heroism’ also suggested renaming the “Soweto” stand at Barbourfields Stadium after Adam Ndlovu in honour of his role in football.
