Ghetto Slogan is the next instalment from the Zimbabwean rapper who is famed for his cypher techniques and is reputed for his top-of-the-dome freestyle skills.

Only a fortnight ago, mUnetsi scooped a Victor Award gong for Song of the Year, for his collaboration with Mudiwa; and he is up for another gong with a nomination at the Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards this month.

In the video of Ghetto Slogan, mUnetsi displays his charisma and swag in the raw and gritty video for the thumping number, making a stunning transformation for the rapper who is best known for his word play and lyricsm.

The video contains real footage shot on location in his hometown – the sprawling high-density suburb of Chitungwiza, a ploy mUnetsi explains was deliberate and strategic.

“One of the first things I said to myself while recording this track was that, ‘I’m going to tap my raw feelings, whether it was being happy, sad, crying or whatever to take it into the studio and figure out how to write and sing a song with that energy in mind’,” mUnetsi said.

“I made the music myself and produced it wholly; and captured the tone and complexion of my neighbourhood, and that of many ghettos across Africa that I have had the fortune to visit or make contact with. With this track, I want to introduce the world to my interpretation of rap, I call it African Slum Music,” the rapper, born Munetsi Matambanadzo, explained.

Since making his recording debut in 2007 with underground classic, Muzukuru Wagogo, mUnetsi, has undeniably become one of African rap music‘s hottest artists today thanks to an infinite streak of mixtapes and performances at prestigious gigs and features on high-profile projects.

Earlier this year, he releases the EP Chaminuka (Zimbabwe Superhero), a six-track project which, like Ghetto Slogan, was released internationally by the UK-based Boomslang Records. Ghetto Slogan is available for free for the first one hundred downloads on bandcamp.
