P Square say Zimbabwe their second home

HARARE – Members of P-Square — a visiting Nigerian pop group — yesterday said they were delighted to be here after hearing a lot about President Mugabe and Zimbabwe’s peaceful people. The identical twins, Peter and Paul Okoye, described Zimbabwe as their second home.

The “Chop My Money” hitmakers are set to headline the Lion Lager Summer Festival where a galaxy of Zimbabweans will also perform. They said Zimbabwe was a beautiful country with beautiful people, making it similar to their home country.

“We have heard a lot about Zimbabwe, especially through President (Mugabe) in fact who doesn’t know him, he is very popular. The good thing is Zimbabwe is a peaceful country and we learnt a lot from the (Zimbabwean) footballers.

“Before we came here, we used to think Zimbabwe was like South Africa, but we were surprised to see that it was like our home country,” Peter, who spots a Mohawk hair style, said. The group also promised a memorable show.

“We promise our best performance as we perform for our first time in Zimbabwe,” said Peter.

He, however, urged Zimbabweans to respect and support the local artistes.

“As much as you would appreciate foreign artistes who come to perform here, you must also support your local talent,” he said.

The pair dismissed rumours that they were members of the secret illuminati organisation.

“The truth is we are Catholics and what we know is that when you are successful, people will talk. And when you are not successful people will always talk so we decided not to respond and just let God judge. We have no idea of where that is coming from and what it is all about. We are Christians,” Peter said.

This makes P-Square the second group to deny any involvement with the secret occult after D’Banj, another top Nigerian pop star.

“Whenever we have successful individuals people will talk what they want about them and there is nothing you can do but just let them say what they want because it is their freedom of expression,” said Peter.

Among the local artists to grace the festival are Alexio Kawara, Roki, Nox Guni, BaShupi, Chiwoniso Maraire, Ammara Brown, Mic Inity and Winky D. However, most Zimbabwean artists were visibly overwhelmed by P-Square and almost ran short of superlatives to describe the group.

Winky D fans praised the duo for their compelling music.

“When I look at P-Square, I see myself in their shoes of fame,” he said.

Ammara and Roki also confessed their love for the Nigerian artists since their debut album “Get Squared” which she sang along to with ease. Roki equated P-Square to “our heroes” while BaShupi said he was happy to meet the group. The Herald
