With lyrics that touch on a variety of issues affecting people in their day-to-day lives, Jah Prayzah — real name Mukudzei Mukombe — will without doubt be out to impress and further consolidate his status as one of the country’s high-riding artistes.

It will be a welcome gig to the artiste at Plaza De Castilla after his successful shows at joints like Jazz 105, Sports Diner, Holly’s and City Sports Bar where he performs regularly.

Although it is outside the city centre, Plaza de Castilla is one of the leading joints in Harare and it is highly likely that Jah Prayzah will ride on that popularity to draw huge crowds.

Those who have watched his videos for songs like “Gochi Gochi” and “Ngwarira Kuparara” will have something to shake off the winter chill when they dance and sing along to his music.

Jah Prayzah has been on the rise ever since the release of his two albums, “Rudo Nerunyararo” (2007), “Sungano Yerudo” (2009), and more recently “Ngwarira Kuparara” which features some of the country’s gifted artistes Chiwoniso Maraire, Somandla Ndebele and talented saxophonist Phillip Svosve.

Backed by the Third Generation band, the contemporary reggae singer has shared the stage with some of the country’s leading musicians such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso and Suluman Chimbetu.

He has changed the music scene with his unique beat and says he owes his success to unwavering support from music promoter Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions.

Apart from music, Jah Prayzah has had cameo roles in comedies like “Bag Remhosva” and “Bag Rabvaruka” featuring his bosom bussy, Lloyd Kurima, better known as Mabla in acting circles.

“Ever since I realised his talent, Jah Prayzah has not really tested his capability to hold a show on his own. Today he is going to write his ‘final exams’ at this show and we wean him off,” Chipaz said.

Chipaz said the gig was a timely boost for the rising star since he has harnessed the skill of live performance from luminaries like Tuku, Macheso and others.
