In discussing the continuing Zimbabwean paralysis and stasis a Facebook friend remarked in a flourish of Chinua Achebe logic “the beautiful ones are not yet born”. I say in response the beautiful ones abound in our land, it’s only that “the ugly ones have locked the doors of decision making”.
The legitimate aspirations of the silent majority are being rail-roaded by the endless waves of SADC communiqués and the pressure for a new leadership that really cares is everyday building. I hear the thunder, lightning and see the darkening clouds announcing the looming political gnashing of teeth, where those too old to have them will be provided some!
My fervent hope and prayer is that it’s all preventable. The arrested development of this once beautiful nation (Zimbabwe) is too nasty to go without close analysis. By all statistical indications 75% of our population is under the age of 45, and sadly most in this bracket have nothing to lose. It’s unconscionable to have this much squalor and misery in the great land of plenty.
In 2012 it’s not yet Uhuru, in the face of SADC/GPA/GNU political “Uhure”(sic). For how long can we tolerate the miserable existence of no electricity, endless parades of potholes on roads that need vehicle worthy certificates more than they merit any vehicle worthiness checks, water addled with faeces, and more police road blocks than good policies?
Anger is everywhere rising. A decisive conflictual reckoning is all but certain. Much as you see acres of media space dedicated to dissecting the supposedly off-color jokes of one Michael Sata, the joke is certainly in on us. We are the idiots as we have in place a government that debates for weeks over the difference in two words “noted” and “adopted”.
Precious resources are expended, going to innumerable, unending and inconclusive regional Indabas. Does anyone seriously think that it’s in the urgent national interest of some of our neighbors to see a peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe?. A nation that’s a natural formidable competitor to the same markets they currently monopolize, and a source of the same precious human resources they enjoy on the cheap.
It’s time any internal differences are resolved locally. The continued failure thereof might yield results too ghastly to contemplate…
The focus on South African dictated resolutions is repugnant. A whole nation hangs precarious like pubic lice on the nether regions of one Jacob Zuma’s spear. Nyika yese yabatirira panyama nhete dzavaZuma sezvindakwenya. Zvinonyadzisa!. Wither the national interest in this government of convenience. The GNU has deepened the descent of our country into one huge hyper-market of Chinese and South African finished goods.
We can’t even make match sticks and toothpicks anymore. Some senior officials are nothing more than salesman for Pretoria as they virtually commute from there, some have structured nuptial arrangements to maintain the same, and even then some are rumored to be constructing palatial retirement and holiday pads closer to Nkandla.
Please don’t take me to the Zulu-boy (as other politicians are crying out for). I am very 100% Zimbabwean and too free to consider politically fellating anyone’s balls. I have no intentions of joining the harem.
In a free country any political crash test dummy has the right to go and have a chat anywhere with anyone over anything even an ex-military man. It beats me that whole diamond frittering, fattened, hypertensive Generals would fulminate over this to the point of threatening war over a mere meeting.
By now everyone should be alive to the fact that there is a new international morality of intervention. No need to troll over a meeting to internalize this reality. Those who struggle with this are doomed to find an exploding projectile up their behind anytime (Check with Saddam and brother Muammar).
The GNU political 3some and 4some is plainly not working. We must sum up a renewed internal urgency, and a new energy that resolves that the greatness of this nation , and its awesome potential cannot continue to fall victim to the smallness of our politics and the shortness of our memory.
It’s not long ago that we had a determined minority that trampled over the majority. Except for different slogans, we find ourselves in similar circumstances today. If that continues unheeded my dear Zimbabwe will continue to be no country for normal people and headed towards a certain and nasty war to refocus its destiny.
It’s the final countdown, and it’s sad that we are not headed to “Venus”. Those with ears must listen and hear good…..
