Power FM’s Power Breakfast ‘entertainer’ Dr Zobha stirred the hornet’s nest on Wednesday morning when he asked why popular prophet, Emmanuel Makandiwa, had not been able to use his powers to ‘uncover’ the skeletal remains of a child at the Harare Exhibition Park.

This followed dramatic events Sunday when a Zimbabwe Agricultural Society worker — Obester Kupangwa — discovered the remains while clearing a piece of land for ‘farming’ inside Exhibition Park, popularly known as Showground.

While parents of Given Flint Matapure (3), who went missing in August at the Harare Agricultural Show, identified clothes that were found where skeletal remains of a child were recovered on Monday as their son’s, it is not yet confirmed the bones are his.

Given’s mother confirmed that a pair of black jeans, one black sports shoe, a pair of black socks and children’s yellow sunglasses that were found at the site belonged to her son and he was wearing them when he disappeared.

The clothes included a T-shirt bearing a Spiderman cartoon insignia that was also recovered. But until a DNA test is carried out, the identity will remain speculative.

On Wednesday, the popular Dr Zobha said something like:

“Ko Makandiwa mbiri yake ndeyei kana akazvitadza? Ane church iri padhuze dhuze asi akatadza kutaura pane mwana. (What is Makandiwa’s claim to fame if he failed to prophesy on this one? His church operates right next to where the remains of the missing child were found but he still failed to predict.)

His co-presenters (Double TC) Tinashe Chikuse and Tendai Chakanyuka remained mum and stayed away from controversy. Dr Zobha’s comments — shared by some newspaper feedback contributors-attracted a string of attacks from Prophet Makandiwa’s followers.

They made calls to Power FM for the remainder of the breakfast show. Although the calls were handled off air, Dr Zobha even revealed -on air-that he had received numerous calls from listeners critical of his comments. Dr Zobha said Prophet Makandiwa’s followers ought to realise that his was a question and NOT a statement.

“All I did was ask a question….” While the callers were numerous, they shared a common advice to Dr Zobha: “Leave the Man of God alone. Do not scandalise him…” H Metro
