An 11 year old boy who plays for an under-12 team run by Kuwadzana MP and ICT Minister Nelson Chamisa, on Tuesday left the country for trials with Italian football giants AC Milan.
Samuel Solobola, who has also been given a sports scholarship to train with the AC Milan academy, comes from Kuwadzana 3 in Harare where he plays for a team known as the Chamisa Stars. He impressed scouts from the Italian team during a recent tournament organized by the local MP.
A press conference was held in Kuwadzana on Tuesday where members of the community, including Chamisa, the boy’s parents and other friends and residents, came to give a cheerful send off for Solobola. The youngster, described as a powerful striker who is right footed, was due to catch a 2pm flight out of the country.
Speaking to SW Radio Africa Chamisa said Solobola was a product of the junior soccer development programme he has been running as an MP. The Chamisa FA tournament as it’s called is an annual event where some 22 teams in Kuwadzana play knockout games against each other. It was during this tournament that the AC Milan scouts spotted him playing.
“This young man is a message that talent is unstoppable and in a few years Zimbabwe is going to occupy the position taken by Spain (as the best team in the world).
