Archbishop Williams harassed in Zimbabwe

HARARE – Visiting Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams was yesterday verbally harassed and barred from attending a church service in Mutare and Penhalonga by thugs believed to have been hired by the excommunicated Bishop Nolbert Kunonga. He later told Robert Mugabe to stop the madness and violence.

Tsvangirai and Gutu ‘fly over’ WikiLeaks

The MDC-T have dismissed reports that Obert Gutu, the party’s provincial spokesman for Harare and also Deputy Justice Minister had been suspended over WikiLeaks revelations that he described President Morgan Tsvangirai as an inept, weak and indecisive leader during a meeting with US diplomats.

Full text of dossier given to Mugabe by Williams

We, the Archbishop and Bishops of the Anglican Province of Central Africa (CPCA), hereby submit a dossier of abuses committed against our Anglican dioceses in Zimbabwe over the last four years. Since 2007 Anglican congregations have suffered systematic harassment and persecution at the hands of the police.

Mugabe offers Williams tea, but no sympathy

A dossier cataloging the abuses suffered by Anglicans in Zimbabwe was presented to the country’s president Robert Mugabe during a face-to-face meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury. At a meeting in the State House in Harare, the Dr Rowan Williams asked the controversial leader to use his powers to stop the abuses that mainstream Anglicans have endured in his country.
