A spokesman for the faction Kurauone Chihwayi, said;

“Our party name is MDC only and not MDC-T or MDC-M or even MDC-N as reported by some journalists especially from the State-controlled media. I am distributing press releases to all the local media telling them to immediately stop this kind of reporting or face the consequences,” Chihwayi warned.

“We are now very tired of being called names which do not belong to us. We debated the issue of the name change during our annual congress and we decided that we are simply MDC full stop.”

The original united MDC, split in 2005, over whether to participate in senate elections or not. The larger faction led by founding president Morgan Tsvangirai contested as MDC-T in the 2008 elections to avoid confusion with the smaller faction.

Because it was felt the Mugabe regime was sympathetic to the smaller faction the larger faction never bothered taking the matter to court despite commanding the bulk of the original membership and supporters. Nehanda Radio.com
