National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) chairperson Dr Lovemore Madhuku will next year join the Movement for Democratic Change led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, Nehanda Radio can reveal.
Although Madhuku, a founder member of the MDC has said “Yes definitely I am going into politics, my contract at NCA is expiring at the end of next year and besides I am already into politics,” he was reluctant to tell them which party he is joining choosing instead to say ‘I will just be campaigning for a particular political position.”
We can however reveal that various officials in the MDC-T have been courting Madhuku for quite some time and the position of either Secretary General or Deputy Secretary General has been offered to him in the party. Sources say both Tsvangirai and current SG Tendai Biti have been in negotiations with Madhuku.
Although Madhuku is at times a fierce critic of the MDC-T and its leader there is no denying he remains a close ally of the party and is regularly seen at their party congresses and functions, even wearing MDC t-shirts. The transition into the party will not be a hard one given the MDC-T was or is a member of the NCA.
