MDC-T Hwange Senator dies from crash injuries

The MDC led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has announced the death of its Senator for Hwange Jabulani Ndlovu.

‘Senator Ndlovu died this morning at Mater Dei hospital in Bulawayo (see picture) where he was admitted after being involved in a car accident along the Hwange – Victoria Falls road last month,’ the party said in a statement.

Senator Ndlovu was born on the 12th of October 1959 in Gweru and was the MDC Matebeleland North provincial secretary for legal affairs.  He joined the MDC in 1999. A holder of a Bachelor of Law Honours degree from the University of Zimbabwe he worked for the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs as a magistrate for 19 years.

After graduating as a lawyer in 2001, Senator Ndlovu rejoined the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs again as a provincial magistrate. However, when the then resident Minister for Matebeleland North discovered that he was a member of the MDC, he was harassed until he decided to resign in 2002.

That year he opened a law firm in Victoria Falls and since then he has been defending MDC human rights activists mainly from Matebeleland North region in the courts. In 2007, he was elected the MDC’s provincial secretary for legal affairs and in the March 2008 general elections; he was elected Senator for Hwange.

The senator is survived by his wife and five children, Nancy, Violet, Amanda, Nkosilathi and Njabulo. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
