Northants sign all-rounder Chigumbura

Northamptonshire in the United Kingdom have agreed a deal for Zimbabwe all-rounder Elton Chigumbura to join them as an overseas player.

The 24-year-old has played in six Tests and over 100 one-day internationals and Twenty20 internationals.

Head coach David Capel said: “He is a talented, young, athletic cricketer who is very keen to improve his game.

“It is clear through watching him play against the West Indies recently, that he is an energetic, effervescent and enthusiastic cricketer.”

Chigumbura, who is a seam bowler, has taken over 100 international wickets in all forms of the game.

He has also scored over 2,200 runs in one-day internationals, with an average of more than 24.

Northants have also signed batting all-rounder Vishal Tripathi on an initial three-month deal.

The 22-year-old, who also bowls leg-spin, was formerly of the Lancashire second XI.

“This is a good opportunity for Vishal to impress everyone at Northants. He is a bright, young all-round cricketer,” said Capel.

“I’ve been given a great opportunity to show what I can do at second and first XI levels,” Tripathi said.

“I’m grateful of the opportunity and hopefully I can show everyone what I can do as an up and coming young player.” BBC Sport
