Gay Herald journalists caught in the act
Harare – Two senior Zimbabwe Newspapers Group male journalists in Harare have been suspended after they were caught red handed engaging in homosexual acts in the newsroom at Herald House, Zimdiaspora can reveal.
Sources at Herald House told Zimdiaspora that the two senior reporters were caught having sex by security guards who had come to investigate strange noises coming from the newsroom at a time journalists had knocked off.
“The two were drinking beer at Jazz 105 club which is close to Herald house and in their drunken stupor they headed straight to the newsroom and had unprotected sex on a desk,” said the source.
He said the two have been for a long time suspected of engaging in homosexual acts in the office.A manager at Zimpapers said the couple will appear before a disciplinary hearing on Monday to answer charges of misconduct.
“We have no problem in the two having a homosexual relationship, but converting the newsroom into a bedroom is uncalled for,” he said.
However, a member of the Zimpapers worker committee said the two should not be punished as nothing was being done to some editors at the Herald newspaper and the Sunday Mail who are sexually abusing female journalists and interns.
“There is rampant sexual abuse of female staff members and interns by editors and managers. If they want to punish the two, then they should also deal with these sex pests at Zimpapers who are abusing their positions,” said the Workers Committee member.
A few male and female journalists at Zimpapers Harare branch are openly gay and some of them have participated in gay and lesbian parades in South Africa and Europe.
One of the suspended journalist was recently involved in scandal where he was accused of extorting money from a popular local musician who is having an adulterous affair with the daughter of a top Zanu PF official.
A few years ago a senior female journalists at Zimpapers and her male colleague were also caught red handed making love in the newsroom and the two were suspended for a month. Zimdiaspora.com
