Moyo dumped by campaign manager

The man who helped Professor Jonathan Moyo campaign for the Tsholotsho parliamentary seat in the March 2008 harmonized elections is said to have now dumped him over his decision to rejoin Zanu PF.

The former information minister was last week re-admitted into Zanu PF after a heated politburo meeting. He was expelled as a cabinet minister and Zanu PF member in February 2005 after defying a party directive not to run for MP in Tsholotsho. He was also blamed for the ‘Tsholotsho’ meeting that sought to block the ascendancy of Joice Mujuru as Vice President.

The decision to rejoin Zanu PF has not gone down well with his campaign manager from the March 2008 election, Lwazi Sibanda. Sibanda is reported to have severed ties with Moyo arguing he had sold out.

There are also reports that disgruntled Tsholotsho voters are preparing a petition calling for Moyo to vacate the seat since he did not win it on a Zanu PF ticket. They now want a fresh election in which they can re-choose a candidate who is not aligned to Zanu PF.

Meanwhile Moyo’s re-admission into Zanu PF has widened already simmering fissures within the party. The Mnangagwa faction of the party pushed for his re-admission while the Mujuru camp opposed it. Zanu PF National Chairman John Nkomo even boycotted the meeting that re-admitted Moyo.
