Who is Who in Zimbabwe
Memory Mucherahowa was born on the 19th of June 1968. He is the fourth born in a family of five boys and one girl. He is married with three children. Memory attended Gwinyiro Primary school and later went to Mufakose High 1 School for his secondary education. He completed his education in 1985-by then he was already playing for Dynamos juniors. His debut was against George Shaya Eleven in 1986. He played with the likes of Moses Chunga, Clayton Munemo, Misheck Marimo, David Mandigora, Edward Katsvere and Lucky Dube. He scored his first club goal against Hwange in Hwange.
He was first called to the Zimbabwe national team by the then national coach Ben Koffi in 1988 and played his first game against Algeria in Algeria. Although it was his first match he managed a start in first eleven with the likes of Japhet Muparutsa, Stix Mtizwa, Stanley Ndunduma, Moses Chunga Angirai Chapo, Ephraim Chawanda etc.
Although he had more than 50 caps, Memory did not feature much in the team during Fabisch's reign. He played a few games -one the historic match against South Africa when he came on as a substitute. Zimbabwe won 4-1. He was injured while playing for Dynamos against Highlanders in a midweek fixture and was to spend the rest of that season injured.
He was first chosen as one of the soccer stars in 1991 when he came second to Peter Ndlovu whilst Joe Shambo came third. He was then the Soccer Star in 1994.
Memory was the Dynamos captain from 1994 and was the first ever captain to qualify for the final of the Africa Champions league in the history of Zimbabwean football. He played only the first leg in Harare but could not play the second because he was head butted during the warm-up. He is the longest serving and most successful captain of all time.
To his credit he has got 6 premiership league winners medals. He retired from Dynamos before playing boozers Highdon Relyton in the ZIFA cup qualifier against Caps United. They knocked out Caps in the first round after a penalty shoot-out at the National Stadium.
