Evidence that Zimbabwe's June 27 presidential run-off will not be free and fair came out Wednesday when police acting on instructions from Robert Mugabe detained opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai for 8 hours in Lupane.

Tsvangirai, MDC Vice President Thokozani Khupe and National Chairman Lovemore Moyo were part of a convoy that was stopped at a roadblock by overzealous policemen. They were later taken to Lupane police station in Matabeleland were they were detained.

"We were detained first at a police roadblock and then at the Lupane police station, where I was questioned about whether I had held a rally or not,'' Tsvangirai told Nehanda Radio."It was more of their usual tactics to disrupt my campaign ahead of the June 27 presidential poll.''

Tsvangirai has failed to campaign freely after Mugabe's government issued orders all MDC rallies were banned. Unfazed Tsvangirai has been conducting door to door campaigns in Bulawayo and other areas.

Since the March 29 election which handed control of parliament to the MDC and a first round victory to Tsvangirai over 53 MDC officials and activists have been assasinated by state agents.
