Lloyd Msipa a Zimbabwean lawyer based in the United Kingdom was convicted of providing immigration advice and services which he was not authorised to do under that country’s laws.

Msipa from Barking in Essex becomes the first adviser to be convicted of the offence. The 38-year old was approved by the Office of Immigration Services Commissioner to work as a voluntary organization in March 2007.

His work should have been restricted to Level 1 immigration advice but Msipa strayed and handled Level 3 work which included the submission of judicial reviews.

A search of his premises also provided evidence that he had charged thousands of pounds to unsuspecting clients even though he was registered as a ‘not for profit’ organization.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and received a 9 month prison term, suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £1 450 in compensation.
