Giants Dynamos lifted the $195 billion dollar Nestle Champion of Champions Trophy after they beat bitter rivals Highlanders 1-0 in the second leg of the finals at Gwanzura Stadium in Harare yesterday.

The first leg played at Barbourfields in Bulawayo two weeks ago ended in a 1.1 stalemate. Highlanders winger Wellington Sibanda had thrust Bosso ahead in the first
leg before Dynamos new signing Lazarus Muhoni equalised for the two teams to share the spoils.

Yesterday a winner just had to emerge and it was Dynamos who were smiling at the end of a gruelling 90 minutes thanks to a superb strike by another new player Benjamin Marere in the first half.

It was the only goal that Dynamos wanted to lift their first trophy of the season. The result means Dynamos won the match 2-1 on aggregate. Dynamos got $35 billion as prize money for winning the trophy yesterday while Highlanders pocketed $15 billion.

Although Dynamos won the season opener trophy their supporters were left unconvinced by the team’s performance as they lost possession unnecessarily and most of their passes went astray, much to the chagrin of thousands of supporters who packed the stadium
to witness the high-profile match.

Their unimpressive show comes at a time the team is playing in the prestigious African Champions League in which they have already beaten Swaziland’s Royal Leopards in the first leg in Mbabane.

It remains to be seen how the team fares in the second leg against the same opponents in Harare in two weeks time.

Dynamos last played in the African Champions League in 1998 and are making a return to the prestigious tournament after winning both the Zimbabwe CBZ league title and the CBZ FA Cup.-The Zimbabwe Times.
