| Poet Mabasa releases gospel album |

09 June 2008 By Calvin Bembere Popular Zimbabwean novelist cum poet Ignatius Tirivangani Mabasa has turned to music with the release of a 12 tack gospel poetry musical album called YADHAKWA YENYIKA. Mabasa, arguably one of the better known of the post-independence writers in Zimbabwe is a performing poet, novelist and storyteller. He has published two collections of poems in Shona: Tipeiwo Dariro and Muchinokoro Kunaka, and a satirical novel, Mapenzi . Mapenzi won the Zimbabwe Book Publishers’ Association award in 1999 and one of his works was recently nominated as one of Zimbabwe’s 75 Best Books of the 20th Century by the Zimbabwe International Book Fair. About his new musical project Mabsa says he got inspiration from God,” I have been a Christian for a good number of years now and I asked God to help me use my creative talent for the furtherance of His kingdom and the reply from God is this project” All the tracks were composed in his vernacular Shona language and include the track Yadhakwa Nyika which he did a duet with musician and poet Albert Nyathi . The other tracks are 1.
