Urginia Mauluka

Award winning Daily News photographer. Mauluku is now based in London the United Kingdom following the banning of the independent paper. In this picture she was pictured following harassment by Zanu PF thugs during the course of her work.On 18 September 2001 a Daily News crew had gone to cover an incident in which two farm invaders had died in clashes with farm workers at Bita Farm. Farm invaders thought to be ZANU (PF) supporters accused the Daily News journalists, Colin Chiwanza, Mduduzi Mathuthu, Virginia Mauluka and Trust Maswela Mpofu, of being spies for the MDC and the UK Government. They were assaulted for 30 minutes by an “illegal gang camping at the [farm] entrance” permitted by ZRP and ZNA to vet visitors. A ZNA soldier firing into the air and threatening to shoot occupiers saved them.
