HARARE – Nineteen MDC-T activists, who were arrested in Hatcliffe last week while on a door-to-door voter registration campaign, were on Tuesday denied bail and remanded in custody to May 14th. The state appeared not ready to proceed with the case.

Nyarai Makone, the 32 year old daughter of co-Home Affairs Minister Theresa Makone has committed suicide by hanging herself today. Her father is Ian Makone, one of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s key advisers.

Media reports claim that Makone was shown the door for bankrolling Locardia Karimatsenga’s legal challenge of Tsvangirai’s marriage to Elizabeth Macheka. The official version from Tsvangirai ’spin-doctor, Luke Tamborinyoka, is that Makone was re-deployed somewhere.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has demoted his Chief of Staff Ian Makone, sacked head of protocol James Maridadi and Lazarus Muriritirwa (Principal Director for Policy Implementation) in what Nehanda Radio has been told “is a clear-out of people who interfered excessively in Tsvangirai’s private life.”
